A Note from Laura D. Tyson, Kristiana Raube, Ben Mangan and Robert Strand
Dear Friends,
As the year draws to a close, at the Institute for Business and Social Impact, we reflect on the election, UC Berkeley’s values, and the renewed importance of our work.
The recent presidential election revealed a deep division in our country. At the Institute for Business and Social Impact, the national uncertainty has reaffirmed our mission to work with the Berkeley-Haas community to build a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable society for all. We are anchored by our students, faculty, and staff who work every day to develop innovative solutions to pressing social and environmental challenges.
Together, we can build the world we want — a world that is based on the values of UC Berkeley — a campus that is rooted in social justice and free speech, a campus that supports hundreds of undocumented students, a campus that enrolls one of the largest percentage of low income students (as measured by Pell Grant recipients). Together, we can work to solve the greatest challenges facing our nation and our world.
At the Institute for Business and Social Impact, we strive to live our values through our work. We hope you will join us.
Warm wishes for a peaceful and loving New Year.
Sincerely,
Laura D’Andrea Tyson, Institute for Business and Social Impact Faculty Director
Kristiana Raube, Institute for Business and Social Impact Executive Director
Ben Mangan, Center for Social Sector Leadership Executive Director
Robert Strand, Center for Responsible Business Executive Director
